So far, GCP Foundation has partnered with two NGOs in Ghana. We are always looking for new partners to help achieve our mission to alleviate energy poverty.
Just Shea is project of One Village Planet-Women’s Development Initiative, a non-profit organisation that helps women support their families through sustainable agriculture.
Just Shea created safety kits of the Just Shea women, they collect shea nuts to go into shea butter body moisturiser.
One million women a year are bitten by snakes when collecting the nuts. Now, thanks to their safety kits with their GCP Solar lanterns, this figure can hopefully decrease.
Green Village Plan Development
Green Village Plan Development provides technical, physical, advisory, managerial and financial support to farmers in rural communities in Ghana. They aim to encourage a sustainable and healthy future for Ghanaian farmers, women and children.
Ghana is well endowed with natural resources. The domestic economy continues to revolve around subsistence agriculture, which accounts for 34% of GDP and employs 60% of the work force, mainly small landholders.
GCP Solar has worked with Green Village Plan Development to distribute solar lanterns to these farmers, enabling them to apply their farming techniques after the sun has gone down.
